Motorcycle Riders Club of America: Online Community

As a member of the Patriot Guard Riders, I was pleased to see the Patriot Guard article in the December issue of Rider. Any other PGR members?

I ride with the Guard when i can. Since i live 30 or so miles from a major base there are always missions. Sometimes 3 and 4 a week. When they fall on the weekend i try to participate.

I'm a Patriot Guard Rider. Our ride captain is Sam Cottle and we have a number of PGRs in our northern Michigan area. Honoring our fallen troops of today's conflicts as well as past wars is important to the families of those soldiers and creates a sense of pride among the PGR. Many Viet Nam vets were ignored, disrespected, or simply viewed in negative ways. Hopefully, none of our returning troops will be treated that way regardless what our/your opinions of the Iraq/Afahanistan Wars. Inviting more people, not just veterans, to join the PGR may promote more patriotism and honor among all Americans.

I'm a registered PGR. Last weekend, escorted the body of an Army lieutenant who was killed in Iraq from a local regional airport to the funeral home. We had around 60 riders. It was a cold, windy day on the flag line. The family told us they appreciated all of us being there. As a former Army officer, son of a career Army office, married to a former Army officer, I am proud of our troops and thankful that I can support them.

Though I am not a guard member, I feel that you members do a great service for our men and women of the armed forces. More people than you know really appreciate it. Keep it up.

You can become a member of the Patriot Guard Riders yourself. Just go to patriotguard.org and find out how to join. once you make a mission you will see that you can become hooked and will want to do more when possible.

What's the weather and temps like in Boise this time of year?? What do you ride and what would be the average number of riders on one of your honor rides? I picture your area as sparsely populated with lots of great views and curvy roads.

I am a PGR member and proud Dad of a soldier serving in Afghanistan. I rode a mission this past weekend of a soldier who was injured in Iraq and recovering at Ft. Bliss, TX. He was going to be able to come home to SC for Christmas but was killed in an auto accident in TX the day before coming home. Support our troops!

A Veteran – whether Active Duty, Retired, National Guard or Reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to “The United States of America”, for an amount of “up to and including my life.”

You know, there is just something wrong when a soldier can survive a war, come home to recover and then get killed in a traffic accident. That's just wrong.
I just have to remind myself that God is ultimately in control of everything, even how we die.

Yes to your question. I am a Ride Captain for the Illinois Patriot Guard Riders and found that it is truly the right thing for me to be doing. I am a Army Vet of the Viet Nam age and have lost alot of good friends from that time. The one thing that I know now for sure is that our troops will never again be dishonored as before. GOD sent me to the Patriot Guard Riders with a purpose and I don"t know what it is but I will keep trying to answer the question and will always show the true HONOR and RESPECT for our service personal present and passed..
