The horrorible, unforgiving terror, of war is indescribable. A warrior never, never, forgets as it is imbeded in every recess of his or her being. That horror remains with the "Warrior" for all their remaining time in this life, with every breath taken, they relive that "Hell" over and over, again, and again. Their dreams are of another time and place. They occasionally awaken screaming for they have returned to that time in their slumber. Encounters in daily living will revive a memory, an occurance, a place, and yes, faces of ghost from another time and place of long ago. A Warrior exist in two dimintions, they live two lives, and traverse back and forth between the two. That is their lot in life for they have no control over that which lay within them. It is as it is and things are as they are. They accept this way of living, they live with the memories and they will live it over and over again and again. This is the Warriors lot in life. No one other than another who carries the same memories will know, but they do know for only they know of that hurt and pain. On the other hand, if one is somewhat sensitive, being aware of the emotions of others, they too will see something which perhaps they understand not, but they shall feel something not often revealed. It is there only for the acutely aware to envision. It is a devestating hurt, empty, troubled. unmistakable, look of being alone within themselves, alone in the crowd, for only they know what they have seen, done, and are still capable of doing. Oft times, it is the latter they fear. Yes, they fear self, and what they know they are capable of if put to the test by one who knows not what they face. The pain of that which was in a place far, far, away, in a time of, long, long ago does not hamper the execution of their training and experience. Their pain for lost brothers and sisters on the field of battle, the guilt for a brother or sister whom they could not save, the immence guilt for that which they had to do while, at the time, feeling no remorse for having done so. Another Warrior reads the eyes and there is no doubt even in absence of the spoken word. There are no words or ability to relate that which was or is now in the present, however, "FREEDOM IS NOT FREE"!! "ALL GIVE SOME, SOME GIVE ALL"! It is "NOT" a coward's way, nor a path for the timid to trod!! The status of "WARRIOR" is reserved for only the "BRAVE"!! There is no note or difference of, race, creed, or color, as war rages all around the Warrior and they execute, with determined precision, that which they never dreamed lay within them. "THE ABILITY TO KILL"! Kill another human being with never the blink of an eye in so doing, feeling no remorse, with only a cold uncaring heart, and total lack of emotion as they watch the life slowly drain from another! It is what a Warrior does! It is the way of war! As for me, I went, I saw, I did all which was ask of me and as did others, I performed my job with deadly focus and determination! My loyalty, intence obedience, adhereance to necessatated organization, authority, and execution of weeks and months of ongoing intense training did not go unoticed as was the same with untold numbers other than myself. The medals and ribbions once placed upon my chest, now lay in darkness in a place of my own choosing. Now and then, I go there and gently, respectfully, hold one or another while memories flood my mind. Reality finally takes hold once more and I leave them only to return another day when my heart is heavy. You see, I did make a difference and left my mark on the pages of history, as did thousands of my brothers and sisters in uniform overcoming unbeliveable fear, turmoi, and insurmountable odds on many an occasion. We had our "Moment In The Sun" as heros were born, Warriors perished, bad things happened to good men and women, but we never once faltered. Stand our ground we did, be it in the jungle or in the sky above, in the desert sand, and the frigid cold of Korea. The foe learned a resounding lesson on many a day which was heard around the world by all who would challange the "Sleeping Giant" as Japan's Ruler had once said during WWII. In each and every case, when America has been challanged, they too learned they had awakened, "A Sleeping Giant"! Hitler and his so called, "Super Human Race" learned of the "Sleeping Giant"! The Japanese feared the American Marine like no other force they had ever encountered. They nicknamed the Marines, "DEVIL DOGS" for on not one occasion did the, so called, "Mighty Imperial Forces of Japan" stop the Marines or deter their advancement. Not once did they prevent the Marines from achieving their objective. That same spirit is solidly alive and well in the minds and hearts of every man and woman serving in all branches of the American Armed Forces and always has been from the inception of the "Declaration of Independence" declaring America a "Free Democracy"! Free, standing alone, separate, and set apart from the rest of the world, assuming a self governing role, while denouncing the King of England as their ruler. Free men and women, set out on an adventure into the future which even they had no concept of the magnitude of unbeliveable, towering accomplishments, their small dream would achieve. This we honor and celebrate on July 4th each and every year without falter nor dampened spirit. The American Warrior, was and is a force to be reckoned with, greatly feared, and respected by all. That is the American Warrior, like no other, for none other exist as capable and deadly as they. The American Warrior has seen things, horrible things, man's lack of human consideration for man as it was commited in an inhuman, calculated, manner of execution. They wonder if even God could imagine such as they have seen. Yet they harbor no misconceptions as to who their real Commander in Chief is. Prayers are heard while machine gun fire splits the air. His name in the spoken word or inner thought is revently uttered more than any other word, in any language, during times like these. The Warrior learns that in experiencing death, feeling it's hot stench breathing down the back of their neck for hours upon hours at times, they slowly develope an acute appreciation of and love for the wonder and miracle of life. From this they will emerge much the better off in that respect. On the other hand, they must first emerge sound of mind and whole of body. They must stay alive for dead Warriors fight no wars, protect not their fellow Warriors. More often than not, they are a child's Mother or Father as well. A wating wife or husband, whose face is enbeded in their memory. That too must be dealt with and in doing so it gives them even more of a reason to stay alive. Many are the lessons of life learned during times such as these. The Warrior developes a depth of understanding, reasoning, and thought, far beyond their years which other men and women will never develope. They will, also, carry many a troubled thought with them for all their living days during this life. They will live a somewhat troubled life, but live they will and love every minute that God allows them. Some may very well think them in a state of confusion and they may well be, but worry not. They have a grip on things, but just not with the same hand others may be using. They have witnessed that which others have not the ability to even remotely, in their wildest imaginings, ever have the ability to even begin to comprehend let alone believe such could be possible. Yes, it was a time like none other. However, our wounds, scars, both physical, and mental, are carried with pride for the honor of having been afforded the opportunity of serving our country! IN HONOR OF OUR FALLEN HEROS, THOSE HAVING NOT MADE IT BACK, IT IS UP TO THOSE OF US WHO, BY GOD'S GRACE, DID MAKE IT BACK, TO NEVER LET THEIR SACRIFICE GROW DIM IN THE COLLECTIVE MINDS OF AMERICA. WE MUST NEVER LET THEIR SACRIFICE HAVE BEEN IN VAIN. IT IS SAID, "IF ONE CAN READ, THANK A TEACHER, AND IF ONE IS FREE, THANK A VETERAN"! THE CAUSE OF FREEDOM, FOR ALL MANKIND, IS PARAMOUNT IF HUMAN DIGNITY IS TO SURVIVE FOR THOSE OF ALL RACES. PEACE MUST TAKE PRECEDENCE OVER OUR DIFFERENCES. MANKIND MUST LEARN TO LOOK UPON ALL AS BEING GOD'S CHILDREN AND NONE ABOVE OR BELOW ANOTHER IN ANY MANNER OF SPEAKING. MANY A BROTHER AND SISTER GAVE THEIR ALL FOR THAT PRINCIPLE! "A WARRIOR IS TRULY A WARRIOR WHEN THEY LAY DOWN THEIR LIFE FOR ANOTHER"!! THEIR IS NO GREATER HONOR!! To those who were not there, we seek only your respect, support, and prayers. In contrast we seek not further conflict, but cast ye not insult upon an American Warrior of any time or place, for it shall not fall upon deaf ears, nor an attitude of indifference. The aggresor we are not, however, it would be much the better to never let such words cross your lips for any number of reasons. It is most difficult for Veterans. You see, tourist now walk, children laugh while playing, and many there are who buy useless trinkets, on the very soil where battles were once fought in Vietnam. As troublesome as it may be, this is the closure which should come after such a horrible endeavor as man imposed upon the human race during those long hard -15- years when some 54,000 young American men and women gave their lives for their country in the name of "Freedom"! So, I say, God Bless you and yours on this "Veteran's Day. May "God Bless America" and remove her from, perhaps well meaning thought, but misguided action. Let not her leaders execute ill fated action based upon unfounded supposition. Let not those who govern place personal gain above the good of all her people. As never before, America needs the guidence of sound minds, the loyal conviction of her people, and the prayers of all!! Let there be no ill conceived notion as to where I stand. I say to all in only the way I know how to say it and convey my exact meaning, "Love My Country or Leave It"! I bear no tolerance for such verbal or physical displays of contempt for my home land and ye who would do so will very quickly know of my feelings. I am an "American" and I shall stand as an "American", make no mistake! I believe that "Peace" is always the better choice among any faction of men, women, people, country, or government. I speak the truth. Hostilities only serve to delay the inevitable after many innocent lives are lost, for some attempt at peace must and will always eventurally be the end result. Those who are right and just, in any conflict, do not always emerge the victor in such as war for it will always be the greater of the two participants who win. The stronger force will always prevail. The greater in strength and power will always conquer the weaker faction. Therefore, war is nothing more than a futile endeavor of man which even after centuries, he has not learned the lessons taught by such as war. War always goes the same way, the same thing happens, and it always culminates in the same manner. How so? Well, it begins, there is much fighting, many die on both sides, many innocent die, men, women, children, babies, then it ends, someone is the victor, and in the end peace is finally achieved in one fashion or another. What a revelation!! False pride always goeth before the fall. It is, therefore, my firm belief that war is based on nothing more than false pride, greed, desire for power, coveting that which another has, and the overall ignorance, of the aggressor. It can, also, be esculated by an overacting of those whom the aggressor has sought out for some ill conceived belief. However, I will not be misunderstood I assure those who would test my conviction. I have stood at attention, saluting, and watched as the "American Flag", "My Flag" waved "FREE AND PROUD" over many a foreign soil. Soil where we planted the seeds of "Freedom" which have now grown and spread to cover entire nations. In such an instance, a tear always emerged from my eye, running down my cheek, and finally seeking a resting place on my chest and uniform. The tear left a temporary spot of dampness which shortly would be gone forever, but the reason for it having been shed would never die and be gone. I have witnessed Generals shed that same tear, landing on a field of medals placed upon their chest. It left the same damp spot on their uniform as it did on mine. In watching that, I was reminded that each of us were virtually the same, with the same objective, and we had all come together, from all walks of life, from all over America, with one common purpose, to operate as a whole, in the name of freedom!!! Today, I now watch as our flag waves over her home land, America. As I watch her wave in the breeze I remember those days in many a foreign land and it stirs my heart to know I have helped to keep her waving over "The Land of The Free and The Home of The Brave". I ask your understanding for I am not one to mix words nor meaning and I have no hidden agenda. I seek not to offend anyone! I am one, however, who stands on strong, unshakable, rock solid, conviction in the name of, "Justice, Freedom, and the American Way"!! It is imperative that we all work together to keep America strong. On this Veteran's Day, 11 November 2009, shake the hand of a Veteran. Tell them you appreciate what they have done and the sacrificies they have made, the burden they carry, and if you can find it in your heart to do so, give them a hug and watch there eyes tear up in gratitude for just knowing someone really does appreciate them for all they tried to do, "FOR YOU" and your loved ones!!!!!! On this Veteran's Day, you could offer no greater deed than to honor a Veteran in this manner. The respect and appreciation of his or her country and it's people is all the reward any Veteran has ever ask for in return for serving their country!!
